Denis Brott, C.M., C.Q.

1706 Brott-Turner Tecchler cello

Founder and Artistic Director of the Montreal Chamber Music Festival, cellist and conductor Denis Brott is one of Canada’s finest musicians. As a soloist with every major Canadian orchestra and cellist in the renowned Orford String Quartet, he has recorded over 35 albums, including the highly acclaimed Beethoven's complete string quartets.

In 2021, he created Les Jeunes Virtuoses de Montréal, a string ensemble of 15 recent graduates from Canadian universities and conservatories, and Health & Wellness Concerts at the University of Montreal’s CHUM hospital.

Currently a Professor of Cello and Chamber Music and Conductor of the Grand Orchestre à cordes at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, Denis gives concerts and master classes worldwide and serves as a juror for international competitions.

In recognition of his role in creating the Instrument Bank of the Canada Council for the Arts, he was given the use of an exceptional 1706 David Tecchler cello, now known as the Brott-Turner Tecchler, for the duration of his career.
