Our support for Indigenous creation centres on cultural self-determination and supports the renewal of the relationship between Indigenous artists and Indigenous and non-Indigenous audiences.
With our commitment to Indigenous creation, the Council is supporting work to renew the relationship between Indigenous artists and both Indigenous and non-Indigenous audiences. This work is furthering truth and reconciliation and decolonization, and it is fostering a shared future free of discrimination. The Council’s overall funding to Indigenous artists, groups, and arts organizations totalled $19.3M in 2019-20. With this, the Council achieved its goal to triple support of Indigenous creation to $18.9M by 2020-21.
