  2. Canada in Edinburgh

In response to the current pandemic, we have established a blackout period during which time we will not be supporting travel-related activities, despite the reopening of suspended components. There may be restrictions or conditions on projects in which public gatherings are an essential part. As a result, the contents of this page may not be up to date. Please consult our COVID-19: Information and support for the arts sector web page for details.

With the cancellation of many events in Edinburgh this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Fringe Society—the organizers of various Edinburgh festivals—have reimagined the summer season with a series of digital activities for artists and industry professionals, including:

  • Fringe Marketplace, a digital showcase platform to connect arts industry professionals from all over the world with professional artists and tour-ready work. Accredited industry can access the platform, featuring productions previously selected to appear at this year’s Fringe, from August 7 to 31.
  • Fringe Exchange, a series of virtual events that will bring CanadaHub artists together and allow them to present their work and connect with international programmers during the CanadaHub Showcase and Pitch Event on August 24 at 4 p.m. BST.

Additional details about Canada’s participation in the 2020 Edinburgh program of digital initiatives are available on the CanadaHub website. You can also read more about the reimagined virtual festival online.

The Canada Council for the Arts and the High Commission of Canada in the United Kingdom support the presence of artists from Canada at the reimagined virtual Edinburgh Fringe 2020 in collaboration with Selfconscious Productions.

Our congratulations to the artists and companies participating in these digital activities as part of the CanadaHub.

CanadaHub at the heart of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival

Canada is at the heart of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with a venue-specific platform: CanadaHub.

CanadaHub is presented by the Canada Council for the Arts with the High Commission of Canada in the United Kingdom. It is produced by artistic producer Michael Rubenfeld and managing producer Clayton Lee from Selfconscious Productions.

Thank you to all the artists and companies who submitted a proposal for CanadaHub 2020.

Festivals Edinburgh: The Festival of Festivals

Edinburgh is the leading city of festivals! In the summer, five independent festivals run throughout the month of August. It is one of the world’s largest marketplaces in the arts, and offers a perfect platform to raise artists’ cultural profile and showcase established companies and emerging talent. Each year, approximately 50 artists and companies from Canada appear across all festivals.
