David Baik is a South Korean-born violinist noted for his powerful and sincere sound. Featured on the CBC’s 30 hot Canadian classical musicians under 30, David is the recipient of numerous awards, including the grand prize at the 2021 NAC Orchestra Bursary Competition, consecutive first prizes at the 2016 and 2017 Canadian Music Competition, the Sturdevant Prize and the Gerhard Kander Graduating Award. In 2021, he received the Dorothy Richard Starling Foundation Fellowship at the Aspen Music Festival. An active performer, Baik has been invited as a solo artist to the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts and the National Commemorative Ceremony in honour of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. His notable collaborations include performances with Camden Shaw, Jennifer Koh, Andrew Wan, Jonathan Crow and Philip Chiu. Aside from performing, Baik is committed to creating an inclusive artistic ecosystem by volunteering for students with disabilities within his community. In 2022, David obtained his bachelor’s degree from the University of Toronto, where he studied with Jonathan Crow. He is now a fellowship recipient at the Schulich School of Music under the tutelage of Andrew Wan.
