Canadian violinist Yu Kai Sun is an active performer across Canada, the US, Europe and Asia. Recipient of the Jeunesses Musicales (JM) Canada Foundation’s 2023 Choquette-Symcox Award, she was appointed co-concertmaster of the 2022 Pacific Music Festival Orchestra as well as concertmaster of the 2021 Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival Orchestra, which culminated in performances at Suntory Hall, in Tokyo, Japan, and the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, Germany, respectively. Passionate about new music, Yu Kai enjoys performing regularly with the Colburn Contemporary Ensemble and looks forward to being part of the Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra in August 2023. She most recently earned a Master of Music at the Colburn Conservatory of Music, in the studio of Martin Beaver. Previously, she studied with Victor Danchenko and completed her undergraduate degree at the Glenn Gould School. Yu Kai grew up in Montréal, Quebec, and now lives in Los Angeles, US, but she will be based in Luxembourg starting this fall, further to receiving the JM Canada Foundation’s 2023 Choquette-Symcox Award.
